The migration went off without too much of a hitch but took a few weeks in testing to make sure that everything migrated well. We set up a new Zope/Plone instance, get it nice and stable with the products we want to use and copy over the products Data.fs. After that it is a simple migrate through the ZMI (at root) and product type migration. Upgrade the products in the Plone Site Setup and you are done.

Plone Migration Tips

• Get your platform stable - Get all of the products and versions of Zope/Plone you want nice and stable before doing anything.
• Test, Test, Test - Don't be afraid to test everything from registering to searching.
• Upgrade early - Best time is in the very early morning so you can, monitor, back out or bug fix all day long.
• Document It - Keep a pad of paper or open Word document handy. Write down things that work or don't work. Take screen shots if it helps.

Follow those few steps and you should be up and migrated in no time at all.
